I will exalt you, Lord,
for you lifted me out of the depths
and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
Lord my God, I called to you for help,
and you healed me.
You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead;
you spared me from going down to the pit. Psalm 30:1-3
David continues to rejoice in the Lord’s goodness. He knows where He brought Him out from, and is confident of where he is going.
Recognizing the depths of our depravity that He saved us from can really be a motivating factor for us. It’s difficult to know what our lives would be like without Christ in it, but we don’t need to look far to see those who have rejected Christ.
Because we’re in this race for the long haul, we need only look back at those depths on occasion as a reference point. Instead, focus should be on “the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
