35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Mark 1:35-37
Some have used this text to say we should all get up in the morning early to pray. There probably weren’t a lot of night owls back then. Unless you were a night watchman, staying up late was unheard of. Night owl or early bird was not the point. The point is that He prayed.
He prayed.
He prayed in solitude.
He prayed in secret.
We don’t know what He prayed, how long He prayed, or how loud He prayed.
But the Son of God, the One who had perfect communion with God the Father and the Holy Spirit, prayed.
Jesus Christ was the second Person of the Trinity and He prayed.
If there was anyone in the world who could have been exempt from prayer, it would have been Jesus, but He still prayed.
I don’t think this point can be emphasized enough.
Jesus had three years of ministry and He took the time to pray. He needed to pray. It wasn’t an option.
