The Sting

55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

If Adam and Even had not sinned, we would not know sin or death. We live in a sinful, fallen world, and we experience death in some form all the time. Death does have a sting to it and we’re all aware of it. When a loved one dies, we grieve because of the sting. It’s difficult under most situations to rejoice in the death of a loved one. Not until some times passes at least.

But fortunately, Paul didn’t stop at those verses.

We have the victory in Christ Jesus. While we grieve because that person is no longer with us, we rejoice that they are in fact in a phenomenally better place. It still stings, but time has a way of minimizing that sting.
