The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe, but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit. Proverbs 28:18
The idea of this verse is that someone is on a straight path, the straight and narrow as it were. You know the rules and you know the penalties for breaking those rules. You know that if you stray you could very well end up falling into the pit.
“But the straight path is boring and monotonous,” you say. There’s no inherent risk. There are no frills. There’s only a life of drudgery and mild persecution for what you believe.
Don’t believe a word of it. Walking that straight and narrow take a lot of work because it is so easy to stray. The world will pull you one way, your friends and career could pull you another.
Walking that narrow path takes a relentless pursuit of God, walking step by step in His presence. He’s given us the tools and He’s given us His spirit who dwells within.
