14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day. Genesis 1:14-19
Many throughout history have worshipped the sun and the moon. People still worship it today be trying to get that best suntan. The result of course is the increased risk of skin cancer.
There seems to be a heightened interested in getting to the moon in private vehicles.
Those two created objects will never satisfy. For instance, if you get to the moon, what’s next? You’ve done something only a handful of people have ever done. Now what? Or in the sun example, how tan should you get? How much is enough? Who are you trying to impress?
We look to the sun for light and heat, but nothing more. We look to the moon for a nice landscape when it’s bright enough to see. Nothing more.
Thinking about the sun and moon causes you to look up a bit. Look beyond those bits of creation and discover the God who made it all!
