The Wealthy

The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall. Proverbs 18:11

We all know that wealth is fleeting (whether we actually believe it or not is a different story). Here today and gone tomorrow. In fact, we sometimes hear of the rise and fall of the wealthy. Often we may even mumble to ourselves that “we saw that coming.”

When the rich get their houses broken into, just for an instant, they become like us. They beef up security and hope that will protect them. Sometimes it does; often, though, they become prisoners of their own making. Still, they feel fortified in their surroundings.

Undoubtedly there are wealthy around you. Pray that God will break through that wall they’ve built in their minds, for as it is necessary to pray that God will reach the poor where they’re at, we too should pray that God will open the minds of the rich. The difference between the two may be better clothes, larger bank account, and a palatial dwelling for a residence, they are the same in God’s eyes: sinners all.
