The Wives

11 In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. 1 Timothy 3:11

Two interpretations of this verse have been studied: first, that of deaconesses, and secondly, the women were wives of the deacons. Obviously the content is the same and applies to both classes of women.

As wives of deacons, they would have knowledge about a lot that was happening in the ministries surrounding them. There was, and still is, no room for gossip or disrespect. Note, that these qualities are also implied for the men in both elders and deacons. These women know the secrets of what their husbands know but must keep it to themselves. That’s why I believe pastor’s and deacon’s wives cannot be as open as parishioners.

They certainly need as much prayer as their husbands, plus they have to manage the household while the husbands are out. Pray for your pastor’s wife and elders’ wives by name. Let them know you’re praying for them.
