17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.
1 Peter 3:17-18
After all these years, it’s hard to imagine why Christ suffered on our behalf. The end of verse 18 sums it up: to bring us to God.
I still have this lingering question in my mind, but why? Why did He feel the need to do that? What did God the Father sacrifice His own Son to bring us to God? What was so important about us that He would even care?
I think the answer is in the question: we were important. It doesn’t matter why He thought we were important enough. It’s never what we think but it’s what He thinks about us. And if He thinks we’re important, we’re important to Him.
And He wanted to bring us to God.
