The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7
To end this series of the Book of Proverbs, I go back to the first chapter. Verse seven of this chapter neatly sums up wisdom.
Fearing the Lord is critical in any pursuit you undertake. Sometimes the term “fear the Lord” is very clear to us; most of the times, though, it is hard to grasp. But it certainly doesn’t mean we give up and stop pursuing this understanding of the term. If we are to understand wisdom and knowledge, we need to fear the Lord. It seems obvious but I suspect it’s a lot harder to put into practice.
Today take some time to roll this concept – fearing the Lord – inside your head. Ask the Lord what that phrase means and wait patiently for the answer. The very act of asking, I believe, is a great step towards our understanding of the term.
