But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
“let the Lord rescue him.
Let him deliver him,
since he delights in him.” Psalm 22:6-8

David is speaking honestly about the human condition. He’s mocking the mockers, and he ends this section by stating a truth he wrote about in Psalm 18:19: “He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”

It’s a pretty interesting statement, don’t you think?

We all know that God loves us.

But He also likes us.

Let that sink in.

We’ve even heard this in church settings: “I have to love her as a sister but I certainly have to like her.”

Again, it’s not at about us, but it is about God’s character.
