Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool in his folly. Proverbs 17:12
We all know that it’s totally unwise to get between a mama animal and her babies; it makes no difference whether they are bears or moose or even ducks. A mother will defend her children, often to her death if need be.
It’s significant then that the Proverbs writer tells us it’s better to meet one of those defensive female animals than to meet someone who is being foolish. And yet, at times we can be that foolish person with some of the things we say or by some of our unthinking actions. Here are two simple questions we can ask ourselves to determine our wisdom or foolishness:
- Will what I am about to say or do bring honor to God?
- Will I later regret what I am about to say or do?
