3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:3-4
The image of God being a protector is very clear here. It’s a false notion, however, to think that bad things do not happen to believing Christians. You only need to look at the news to see that this is not the case. We live in a very fallen world. So, then, what do these kinds of verses mean?
When we first become Believers, a transformation occurs inside us. God saves our souls, so that when we die our physical bodies will crumble in a casket, but our souls will live on and on.
Satan and his minions will throw “fiery darts” and “deadly pestilence” at us, but our souls are forever protected.
That is a comforting thought in light of the troubles in the world. No matter how much violence, persecution, and ridicule we are subjected to, our souls are protected.
