Fear the LORD and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials,
for those two will send sudden destruction on them, and who knows what calamities they can bring? Proverbs 24:21-22
If you’ve ever known about ruthless governments, you’ll know that they distrust most if not all in the lower ranks. If the leaders even suspect disloyalty amongst their closest advisors, they will squash it in a New York minute. Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein our clear examples of this in our age.
But there are other kinds of rebellions within the people these rulers control. We see this now in Iran and in Egypt. The people rise up among themselves to oppose the governments. They do this, knowing that if their plot fails, they will probably lose their lives.
We live in very unsettling times. Even in the West there are economic and moral problems that are boiling to the top of the kettle, so to speak. It is in these tumultuous times that we as Believers must be able to shine through.
