Utopia on Earth?

7 From their callous hearts comes iniquity; their evil imaginations have no limits.
8 They scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression. Psalm 73:7-8

It’s not difficult to imagine the government leaders discussed in yesterday’s devotional to think these thoughts. In fact, we know for certain that these leaders have existed. They promised their people a utopia here on earth, but ended up slaughtering millions to achieve that goal. Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Idi Amin, Mao Zedong, and others to name a few just in the last century. Many believe their rhetoric and paid a dear price for it. Many of them actually believed they were cleansing society of unwanted races and peoples.

Fortunately those people are dead and reaping what they have sown. As I mentioned a few days ago, they were not born with those evil and hateful tendencies, though they are born with a sin nature.

I’d love to say that those monsters are long gone and no one thought to replace them. It’s just not so. As leaders become more and more consumed with power, they become arrogant and reckless. Unfortunately, there are still leaders who are willing to kill masses of people for their own political gain. We continue to see South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and North Korea producing such leaders. ISIS is committing their own brand of butchery throughout the Middle East against Christians.

their evil imaginations have no limits.

Continue to pray for Christians in those lands. They depend on us to lift them up regularly. Often their very lives depend on it.
