A Wanderer

“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:25-26

The Holy Spirit is our advocate. Christ said He would not leave us abandoned or orphaned. The Father has sent the Holy Spirit to teach us if we want to learn and remind us if we want to remember. I say that only because I know my tendencies to stray and wander. Hymnist and Pastor

Robert Robinson wrote similar words in 1757:

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

We all understand this wandering. But we also understand what it means to be brought back into the fold to learn and grow and mature. The Holy Spirit helps us in all three of those areas.

O that we would be reminded daily that we are children of the Living God, the wanderings would certainly decrease.
