17 Then the Lord said to Moses, 18 “Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 19 Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it. 20 Whenever they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting a food offering to the Lord, 21 they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come.” Exodus 30:17-21
Everyone reading this now understands the value of clean hands. At the time of this writing, the entire world understands the power of washing hands due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Aaron and his sons were to wash their hands and feet, and quite probably the altar every time they offered sacrifices. It was a ceremonial washing to remind them that they must wash and be kept clean as they ministered (John Wesley). As I noted earlier, sacrificing animals twice a day could be wearisome if they weren’t careful.
As if you needed to be reminded this week, wash those hands but let it too be a reminder of the battle we’re facing as a Church. There is a spiritual battle going on for the hearts and minds of men, women, and children around the world today. The world’s solution is to try to wash our hands, but God wants us to wash our hearts and to turn to Him.
Today it’s a virus; tomorrow it could be an all out war. The enemy is seeking to devour you.
Draw close to God and He will draw close to you. Hebrews 11:6
