After reading this you get the sense that Asaph was saying to the Lord, “we get it, we get it. We’re bad people. Save us!”

We know from history, though, that Israel didn’t get it. We know that throughout history they had periods of great reverence towards God and great rebellion. Their heard the stories and knew the law. They didn’t always choose wisely.

It’s interesting then that 3000+ years removed and with the full knowledge of Scripture, we do some of the same things Israel did. We sin as a nation and as individuals. We deny God’s faithfulness in our lives. Sometimes God has to do drastic things in our lives to get our attention.
