7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Psalm 62:7
If you needed any more proof that the salvation we enjoy is because of nothing we do, here it is. We can do nothing to earn that salvation, nothing. When we begin thinking it’s something we’ve done or something we can continue to do, we err. After that salvation are the “good works” that we get to do.
- We get to give
- We get to serve
- We get to have compassion
- We get to rejoice in our weaknesses (2 Cor 12:9)
- We get to praise and worship a living God
- We get to pray
- We get to love our neighbors
- We get to read the holiest of Scriptures
- We get to look forward to heaven
- We get to help the poor, widows, and “aliens”
We could have easily practiced these before salvation, but it makes much more sense afterwards.
However, there is another side to “get to’s” as well:
- We get to suffer for the Name (Philippians 3:10)
- We get to be persecuted and ridiculed (Matthews 5:11)
- We get to pray for those persecuting us (Matthew 5:44)
I write all of that to say this: our salvation is dependent on the God Himself. It’s the foundation to whatever we do in Christ. It’s the “mighty rock.”
One response to “We Get To”
amen- what is that scripture that says “much is expected because of much is given…” something like that, can’t quite recall the scripture -but I’m sure you can, right? 🙂
