May he endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations.
May he be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth.
In his days may the righteous flourish and prosperity abound till the moon is no more. Psalm 72:5-7
This is beautiful language to describe a timeless God. David knows full well that God created all those things he mentions, but chooses to use them as a way to emphasize God’s pre-eminence over creation.
The earth will not be around foever, but God will. God paints the skies at sunrise and sunset as a masterful artist effortlessly captures and blends those colors; one on a canvas, the other on the tapestry of the heavens and the earth. The next time you’re able to view a sunset, consider this: each color is meticulously placed for maximum effect and is slightly different (but equally stunning) depending on where you are viewing the scenery.
And tomorrow He’ll do it all over again.
Marvel and worship the God behind that majestic beauty!
