The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. Proverbs 10:22

There is perhaps no verse that has spurred on the Health and Wealth crowd than this one. But again, it’s a principle and not a steadfast rule. How or why do I say this? My Believer friends in countries like Kenya, Sudan, Cambodia, and Uganda are living examples that you can be poor and have strong faith. Does the Lord bless them? Of course He does. Does He make them wealthy? No, but we in the West often equate material wealth with blessings from God. On the other hand, abject poverty is not a curse from God either.

I challenge you today to wrestle with this verse, even as I am doing now. It’s not an easy issue to contend with because we have wealthy nations and dirt poor nations with strong Believers in each. To say that Believers are rich or poor because of their faith (or lack of faith) is to misinterpret the whole of Scriptures.
