What Are You Doing Here??

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. Psalm 139:8

As Dr. Ron Sauer of Moody Bible Institute taught this verse many years ago, here is how it would be better translated from the Hebrew. “in the depths” refers to what we call hell.

“Ah, you’re in hell! What are you doing here?”

We of course knew he would be in heaven, but hell? How could it possibly be? That’s how far he would go to rescue you and me.

Think about the implications of this verse. Many people have said they are far too sinful to enter the kingdom. They think the church would fall in on them if they were to go through its doors.

That’s just not true.

Even in the darkest of situations – for Believers and non-Believers alike – God is much closer than we think.
