As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2

Paul reminded his fellow Believers of the importance of living to please God. What pleases God? In Scripture, we find a number of things please God.

Having faith in God pleases Him. -Hebrews 11:6
Obeying God pleases Him. -1 Samuel 15:22
Doing God’s will pleases Him. -Hebrews 13:21
Fearing God pleases Him. -Psalm 147:11
Being spiritually minded pleases Him. -Romans 8:6-8
Following Jesus’ example pleases Him. -Matthew 17:5
Doing good and sharing pleases God. -Hebrews 13:15-16

For most of us, these are very tall orders. How can we possibly accomplish all of that? Of course we can’t do it on our own. That’s why God didn’t leave it up to chance. We know the power of the Holy Spirit dwells in us, and is ready and willing to help at the mention of His name. We can’t do this alone. Nor should we. We need the help that only Almighty God can provide.

I suspect that “calling on Him” is another on the list of things that please Him.
