9 All you Israelites, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield.
10 House of Aaron, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield.
11 You who fear him, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield. Psalm 115:9-11
There is a ton of truth in the last phrase of each of these verses: he is their help and shield.
Whether we like to admit it or not, we all need help. Maybe we’ll need it today, tomorrow, or the next day. Maybe we’re in “crisis mode” right now. Maybe we just need the strength to get through another day or another week. He is that help we need. He may send others alongside us to pray for us and and build us up. He will, as they say, bend over backwards to see that we are helped in our time of need.
Secondly we need the protection that a shield brings. The fiery darts of the enemy can be heavy at times, or they can be very subtle. Sometimes there’s a full salvo of attacks and at others it’s like one sniper shot at a time.
In both instances, we do the same thing: call out to God. It’s not a bad principle to learn and relearn in life no matter our circumstances. If we have to call out to Him 100 times a day, it’s worth it.
