Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. Proverbs 12:19
The problem with lying is that if you do it long enough, you slip up and forget which lies you told the first time around that got you out of the jam temporarily until you were forced to lie again to cover over the first, but by then you need to tell a few more white lies, fibs, half-truths, and bold-faced lies just to be sure to protect yourself from the sudden onslaught of questions about the very first lie that you will undoubtedly deny you ever told in the first place.
Whew! Truth’s a good thing, isn’t it?
