Words and Actions Mean Things

10 For, “Whoever would love life
and see good days must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it. 1 Peter 3:10-11

Peter quoted the Book of Proverbs passages here to bring home the point of the previous verses: blessing can come in a number of different ways. The things we do and the things we don’t do are equally important. Words and actions mean things. Silence and inaction also mean things. The trick is knowing when to use or refrain from both.

Fortunately, we have the Holy Spirit who can help us discern when to do something and when to do nothing. He wants to help us, but we have to reach out to Him for that help.
