Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” John 3:3-4

You can almost see the puzzled look on Nicodemus’ face as he asked this. He wants to know the truth but it was such an odd thing for this new teacher to say.

It was clearly a teaching moment not just for a Pharisee named Nicodemus but for the rest of the world. Jesus’ answer continues to stun the world, though they try to mock and jeer at the phrase “born again.”

Without looking at the text that follows, would you be able to answer Nicodemus’ question? Would you be able to explain the concept of being born again to someone who has only heard the term in derision? What follows is solid, matter-of-fact teaching on how to become one of Jesus’ followers. We would all do well to review and hone that knowledge.
