5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”
8 His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. Genesis 37:5-8
At 17, Joseph trusted his family. He didn’t realize that at this point they didn’t have his best interests at heart. He was a threat to them. Throw in the dream he told them, and they just made him Enemy Number One. He just wasn’t smart about his decisions.
But you have to admire his zeal and enthusiasm. He had a story to tell. Who better to tell it to than his family!
The youth of every generation are easy to set aside and believe they don’t have any new ideas or thoughts. We do that at our own peril.
In 20 years the youth of today will be leading us.
So take the time today to engage the younger generation. They won’t understand you, nor will you understand them. That’s why we need to talk.
