9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky. 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank. Exodus 24:9-12
What did these leaders see actually because we know that no one has ever seen God the Father? More than likely it was God’s glory, unmistakeable and brilliant.
Moses did give a description of what was under the Lord’s feet, and it too was amazing to behold.
God did find favor with these men because they dared to approach the mountain after they had worshiped and brought sacrifices at the foot of the mountain. Their lives would be forever changed, and we don’t even know the names of the 70 elders. They would be telling their kids and grandkids the story of how they saw God. Their stories would get longer and more detailed as the years progressed, but it was their story.
That’s my story, and that’s your story too.
We’ve seen the Lord, touched the hem of his garment, so to speak, and our story gets longer the longer we live.
It gets longer because we have more stories of God’s goodness and mercy in our lives.
It’s not a perfect story because we’re flawed people, but it is our story.
No one can take our stories from us. They may not believe that it happened, but it’s still your story.
